How to install a Minecraft skin
You've generated a skin and downloaded the PNG. Here's how to put it on your character — it takes about a minute.
Before you start
- Find the downloaded file. It's named like
ai-skin-golden-knight.pngand is a 64×64 image. - Skins from this site use the Classic model (4-pixel-wide arms, sometimes called "Steve"). Pick Classic whenever the game asks for the arm style.
- Don't open and re-save the file in a photo app that resizes or compresses it — Minecraft needs the exact 64×64 pixels.
Java Edition (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Open the Minecraft Launcher and select Minecraft: Java Edition on the left.
- Open the Skins tab at the top.
- Click New skin (the card with the plus sign).
- Give it a name, set the player model to Classic, then click Browse and choose your PNG.
- Click Save & Use. Your character wears it the next time you join a world or server.
You can also change your Java skin on minecraft.net: sign in, open your profile and upload the PNG there. Either way the skin is stored with your Microsoft account, so it follows you to every computer.
Bedrock Edition (Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad)
- Start Minecraft and press Dressing Room on the main menu.
- Open the Classic Skins section (the coat-hanger tab).
- Under Owned, select the Import option, then Choose New Skin.
- Pick the PNG you downloaded. On a phone, save the file to your device first (Files on iPhone, Downloads on Android).
- When asked which model fits, choose the one with wider arms. The skin is applied straight away.
Menu names shift a little between versions, but the path is always Dressing Room → Classic Skins → Import.
Consoles
Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch versions don't let you import a PNG file. On those you can use skins from the Marketplace or skin packs instead. A custom skin imported on a phone or PC is not carried over to consoles.
Common problems
- The arms look cut off or have a gap. The skin was uploaded with the Slim model. Re-upload it with Classic.
- "Invalid skin" or nothing happens. The file was probably resized or converted. Download it again from the generator and upload that file directly.
- The old skin still shows. Leave the world and rejoin, or restart the game — skins are cached for a short while.
- No hat or hair showing. Turn on the hat/outer layer in Options → Skin Customization. Some AI skins simply don't have a hat layer.
- Other players can't see it on a server. Offline-mode ("cracked") servers don't load official skins. On normal servers it appears after a short delay.
